HolyLab goes Colombia!
In November 2025, the PI Felicita Tramontana, together with Antonio Iodice and the MISGLOB team members José Araneda Riquelme and Diana Barreto, participated in an intensive and highly productive research trip to Colombia, further strengthening international scholarly dialogue on the global history of religion, empire, and mobility in the early modern world.
They participated in the XX International Conference on the History of the Iberian Monarchies – Red Columnaria, held across the main universities of the city of Medellín.
They then moved to Bogotá, where HolyLab co-organized a joint workshop at the National University of Colombia focused on economic and missionary circulation between America and the Mediterranean (16th–18th centuries).
Beyond the conference and the workshop, the team carried out important research activities and institutional visits in Bogotá, including the Commissariat of the Holy Land, the Archivo General de la Nación, and the Museo Colonial.
At the latter, the group was granted an exclusive guided tour of the museum’s storage rooms, offering a rare opportunity to engage directly with colonial artifacts and material culture closely connected to HolyLab’s research questions.
